Uplifting Culture. Empowering Youth. Preserving Legacy. The Oliver Samuels Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to honor the life, legacy, and cultural impact of Jamaica’s beloved comedic icon — Oliver Adolphus Samuels, the “King of Jamaican Comedy.”

Built on Oliver’s enduring message that “with hard work, you can
make it,” the foundation is dedicated to uplifting the next generation
of creatives, storytellers, and leaders through education and opportunity.

To celebrate and continue Oliver Samuels’ lifelong commitment to culture, laughter, and community by awarding scholarships to deserving youth who demonstrate passion, resilience, and potential in the arts and beyond.

Oliver Samuels

Born in Harmony Hall, St. Mary, Oliver Samuels rose from humble beginnings on a banana plantation to become a cultural ambassador for Jamaica. With a career spanning decades in theater, film, and television, Oliver’s comedic genius and heartfelt storytelling have touched audiences around the world.

From his breakout role in Oliver at Large to global tours and award-winning plays, he has used humor to reflect Jamaican life, uplift spirits, and preserve the richness of the island’s heritage.

In 2021, Oliver was honored with a Doctor of Letters from The University of the West Indies and received the Order of Distinction for his invaluable contributions to Jamaican culture.
